bowdoin college 300x199 Bowdoin College Physical EnvironmentBowdoin College is located on the coast of Maine, 26 miles from Portland. Brunswick is a quaint town of 20,000 people, with cobblestone streets and many restaurants that are friendly to students. Bowdoin owns Orr Island, 13 miles away on the coast, where students frequently participate in geology and marine research.

Nearby Freeport, with its designer outlets, attracts students who have a taste for dressing in the high end outdoor clothing. Bowdoin’s 225-acre campus has forested areas with walking trails where athletic students run or cross-country ski.

Here the nature of the Maine environment attracts students who like to be very physically active. The main campus is built around the 1855 Congregational Church, which now serves as the meeting place for various religious groups on campus.
